This book was the first that I've read by the author Rick Renner. However, I do often read his daily emails from Sparkling Gems from the Greek. I intentionally decided to read this book in the week before Easter to really set my eyes on Jesus during this special time. I have to say that Pain In Full blew me away. Rick does an amazing job of looking at all the events surrounding the death and resurrection of Christ by delving into the original language and deciphering the true meaning behind the events.
The book is divided into manageable daily readings although I read up to 20 pages or 5 to 6 readings a day in the week before Easter. Using this book as intended as a devotional is possible. However, I got more from the book by reading more than a few chapters because I found myself being able to connect the events together in a more meaningful way for me. But the true joy was really seeing the events of the death and resurrection through new eyes. Renner revealed things about those events that I honestly never really knew before even though I've read the Bible through multiple times and read hundreds of books on it. Reflecting on the meaning behind Jesus' death and resurrection made this Easter so much more meaningful to me. I plan to read it again next year during the same time period to see how much more I can glean from this incredible book. And I'm even going to invest in the Kindle version of Sparkling Gems because I realize that Renner has a wealth of knowledge about the Scriptures to share and I want more of that special treasure for myself.
